Weakness Wednesday: Modcloth.com

Ok - so I just discovered modcloth.com literally a few months ago. It's pathetic, I know. I'm in love with SO many of the dresses over there, it's killing me. I kid you not, I've been a jeans + tank top girl all my life. Within the last month or two become obsessed with dresses. I always avoided them because I thought they made me look "like a boat" and they were uncomfortable. Boy was I wrong! I've started my dress collection & I'm in love with it and need more! Sadly, my closet  can barely hold the 10 or so I have so I'm going to have to figure out what to do about that.

All of these dresses are under $50! Personally, I'm cheap. So it'd be hard for me to spend more than $50 and even to spend $50 I'd really have to think it over. But seriously, these dresses are so cute. I have at least 15 on there that I want, but that seems like overkill so I'll keep it at 5.

It's total love. One day I'll have an amazing collection of wonderful dresses. Maybe I'll even get a closet to accommodate  them. I always complain about SoCal - the overcrowding, the tiny yards, the giant premium in real estate you pay to live here, etc. I even complain about the heat. But one thing I love is that I can wear dresses almost year round. For a couple months a year I may have to throw on some leggings or boots with them, but in general - southern CA is a dress lovers heaven!

Grocery Shopping Spree!

So I blasted on my twitter that I was done relying on fast food and bagels. It's a vicious cycle for me. I will be extremely healthy and cook several yummy vegetarian meals a week. Then I will run out of groceries and rely on junk food for a week or two. I'm trying to change that. I really hate the way I feel when I eat unhealthy, I have so much more energy and am so much more productive when I take the time to cook a yummy, healthy meal.

So I headed off to the local farm, our health food store and trader joes. My three favorite places to shop for goodies.

Got all sorts of produce at the farm. What did I get? 4 green peppers, kale, lettuce, 5 bananas, 4 tomatoes, 4 white peaches, a bundle of asparagus, 3 anaheim peppers, an eggplant, 2 avocados, 4 kiwis, 2 zucchinis, 3 little potatoes & a giant sweet potato!

Then I went to the health food store, Lassens. What did I get? 2 packages of organic whole wheat spaghetti, a bag of banana chips, a tub of nutritional yeast, a box of Amy's California veggie burgers, Just Fruit Salad, strawberry hemp granola & a coconut bar.

At Trader Joe's I bought: 16 oz of roasted unsalted sunflower seeds, package of blueberries, naan bread, 2 packages of fresh mozzarella, 2 bags of premade garlic & herb pizza dough, vanilla nonfat greek yogurt, greek yogurt with honey single pack.

Now I'm one of those people who will go grocery shopping and 3 days later be convinced there's nothing to eat because I already forgot what I bought. So I wrote it all down. And broke it into what I can make with everything.

Meals:

  • Stuffed peppers

  • Homemade pizza

  • Spaghetti

  • Veggie Burgers

  • Grilled Veggies

  • Caprese Sandwich/Salad

  • Yogurt & Granola

  • Green Smoothie

  • Baked Potato

  • Sweet Potato Fries

Snacks

  • Green Smoothie

  • Fruit (banana, peaches, kiwi)

  • Baked Potato

  • Banana Chips

  • Just Fruit Salad

  • Yogurt & Granola

  • Coconut Bar

There. In 3 days when I'm convinced there's nothing to eat, I have something to back to. I'm sure there's even more options, but I think that list should last me the next week or two. Let's just say all of the yogurt is already gone because it was just that delicious. Probably should grab some more in the next day or two. Yogurt & Granola or Yogurt & Honey = amazing snack OR dessert. I'm one of those people who almost always needs "dessert". Basically, I just like a sweeter taste in my mouth after I eat rather than a "regular food" taste. Weird, I know.

I also scored a box of 48 family sized iced tea bags at Walmart for $1! I seriously only drink Iced Tea at home. I love it so much.

Working on my new shop!

I've started to work on my new etsy shop for vintage clothing & handmade accessories. I'm wayyyy too excited & impatient! I have a great collection of mostly 50's dresses right now, but it's growing all the time due to my addiction to shop! I picked up about 10 over the weekend to add to my growing collection.

Anyway - went to bed at 10:30pm, woke up at 3:30am. So now I anticipate completely exhaustion by 3 or so. Especially with all the work I'm planning on doing today.

Today's to do list:

  • make B breakfast before he leaves for work (aka now)

  • work on a few orders

  • do a little seamstress work on some of the dresses

  • set up a little temporary photo studio

  • photograph all of the dresses

  • type up descriptions of all the dresses

  • go outside and enjoy the sunshine & company of my puppies

have an amazing day, all!

peace|love|&|pretties,
aileen.

I would kill for...

this filing cabinet. I saw one at a yard sale last week and we didn't get it because we don't have room for it. I'm so sad! It was more turquoise than this one and it's the love of my life. I'm SO sad I didn't grab it or even ask how much they wanted for it! It could've been $5. I would've made room for it. Seriously.

I would also kill for this Michael Jackson shirt. I was watching some Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary show last night (which was amazing, btw) and Usher was wearing it. This is the only (crappy) photo I can find of it, but it sparkles. I need it. I can't find it ANYWHERE.

Ok so I wouldn't KILL for these things. Unless it was a bad person, a really bad person, maybe.

We went thrifting today. Found a few cute things, but not like the jackpots we've been hitting the past 2 weeks. We're heading over to an antique flea market tomorrow, hopefully, so I'm crossing my fingers!

Dear University

Dear University That I Will Be Transferring to in Spring 2011,

Thank you for raising fees 5% as soon as I decide to go there and get accepted. You know, because I totally have exactly $4230 burning a hole in my pocket and had no idea wanted to spend it on. Awesome.

Love,

Aileen

Weakness Wednesday: Yellow

Weakness Wednesday. Where I share my current weakness. This week: Yellow! I've had this crazy obsession with Yellow lately. I love it so much. It used to be my favorite color and I think it's creeping up on me again. Maybe it's all the sunshine and how it always looks summery. I just love it to death!

Some yummy yellow things I'd love to buy:

Chunky Necklace | Pyrex Dish | Crocheted Coasters

Sunflower Dress | Party Dress | Ski Kansas Tee

Picnic Top | Coffee, Tea, Sugar | Vintage Train Case

Isn't it all just fabulous? I'm in love. With yellow. Don't tell my boyfriend <3

Vegas with the Fam

Monday - Thursday of last week I went to Vegas with my family. Family being mom, dad, sis, cousin & lola (grandma). Good times. We stayed at the Venetian, visited my aunt who lives there, did some shopping at the outlet and I left vegas with more money than I came with thanks to a few small slot machine wins! It was fun and I was surprised to see how nice some of the neighborhoods in Vegas are. Most people don't venture far off the strip, but when we did I was definitely surprised! We went to a model home of a gorgeous housing tract that starts at $130k which is pretty much unheard of here in SoCal. It got my wheels turning... hm...

Some photos from our fun little trip:

Good times!
